Ping Feature Coming to World of Warcraft in Dragonflight Patch 10.1.7

July 8, 2023

In the recent Interview with Maximum on Twitch, Morgan Day has revealed that a ping feature, similar to other games, is coming to Dragonflight in Patch 10.1.7.

Last month, we reported about our speculation about the upcoming releases for Dragonflight.

“We would current speculate the Release Date Patch 10.2 on September 27th, 2023 with Season 3 starting on October 4th. This would be around 8 Weeks after the speculated release of Patch 10.1.7 on August 17th, 2023. This once again would be just 6 Weeks after the Release of Patch 10.1.5 on July 5th, 2023.”

Ping Feature in World of Warcraft

A ping feature has already been a staple in many other games like League of Legends or Dota 2. This is an indicator that players can dynamically place to remind players to take a certain action, or pay attention to a location.

In comparison to the World Marks that currently exist in the game, a ping feature usually lasts for just a few seconds, playing a certain sound whenever it is used.

Morgan Day said:
In 10.1.7, we’re actually adding a ping system. So something that you’re familiar with from DOTA, League of Legends, Apex, stuff like that, where there’s a ping system that has contextual pings where you can really quickly on the fly kind of communicate.

It will show a “thing” in game and it’ll have different options and you’ll be able to put it in the world or on a player or an enemy. Giving players that tool to more quickly communicate and if we give you great affordance, this is not only something that could be great for guilds but we also thing it’s also an important accessibility option. We love watching guilds who are participating in the raid content who might have some accessibility concerns. So that’s something that we’re adding that we think is important for people to be able to solve these problems that we’re creating for them.
