Basics of Blood Death Knight

Blood Death Knights have an incredible amount of self healing, which is paired with many defensive cooldowns. Blood Death Knights take large hits of enemies, which have to be compensated with their Death Strike. With many abilities which grips enemies towards you, Blood Death Knights have a unique toolkit to their hands.

Builds and Talents

General Talent Tree

Most Notable Talents

Abomination Limb, Empower Rune Weapon and Soul Reaper are our last row Talents. These have the biggest impact in playstyle.

Other Damage Talents

Cleaving Strikes, Brittle, Unholy Ground grant you significant damage increase. Merciless Strikes and Might of Thassarian increase your Stats.

Crowd Control & Utility

Chains of Ice, Mind Freeze, Asphyxiate, Blinding Sleet and all allocated Talents are boosting your Crowd Control, including Slows, Stuns and Interrupts. Wraith Walk grants you more Mobility.

Defensive Talents

Anti-Magic Shell, Anti-Magic Zone, Death Pact and Icebound Fortitude, including all allocated Talents are granting the Death Knight more Survivability.

Specialization Talent Tree

Single Target Talents

Rune Tap grants you an additional damage reduction.
Bloodworms can be spawned by your auto attacks, which will burst and heal you.
Iron Heart grants you more absorb by your Blood Shield.
Blooddrinker can be skilled instead of Consumption, and drains life from your target.
Death’s Caress applies your Blood Plague, and grants 2 charges of Bone Shield.
Umbilicus Eternus grants an absorb shield after Vampiric Blood.

Multi Target Talents

Bonestorm grants us a very strong damage increase, which also heals us.
Shattering Bone causes our Bone Shield charges to explode when depleted.
Gorefiend’s Grasp grips all enemies to your target.
Consumption deals damage to all enemies, and heals you for a certain amount.
Blood Boil deals damage to all targets, and applies Blood Plague.
Heartbreaker grants your Heart Strike to generate more Runic Power per target hit.

Stat Choice for Blood Death Knight

General Stat Priority for Blood Death Knight with our Build is:

Versatility

Strength is your primary stat, meaning that Itemlevel is superior in most cases. Higher Itemlevel will also increase your Stamina and Armor that you gain.

Critical Strike increases the chance for your abilities and spells to deal double damage.

Haste reduces your global cooldown, your time to cast spells, and reduces the cooldown of many abilities.

Versatility grants you a flat damage and healing increase, but also a damage decrease for half of its value.

Mastery increases the heal of Death Strike, and granting additional amount of your heal as absorption shield. Also increases your attack power.

The further we are getting into the expansion, the effects of diminishing returns start to limit your effective gain of your secondary stats. After reaching 30% (by rating) of any given stat, you will start to receive a penalty that reduces the gain from more of the same stat over this treshold.
