Welcome to our Assassination Rogue Guide for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. We will help you to learn and master Assassination Rogue in either Raids or Mythic Keystone Dungeons.
Last Update: 16-03-2023
Assassination Rogues deal most of their damage with lethal Poisons, dealing damage over time instead of having a strong burst of damage. Also, with a very restricted talent tree, Assassination Rogues are very difficult to achieve their peak performance, but can also be very rewarding.
General Stat Priority for Assassination Rogue with our Build is:
Please read our Rotation and Cooldown section for further information.
Bottom row Talents like Deeper Stratagem, Marked for Death, Shadow Dance, Cold Blood, Thistle Tea and Echoing Reprimand have the biggest impact in our playstyle.
Thief’s Versatility grants us 4% Versatility. Left side Talents are granting us more Poison damage, critical strike chance, more maximum Energy and additional Combo Points whenever landing a critical strike. Right side Talents are granting us Energy cost reduction of Finishing moves, more damage during Stealth, Ambush generating more Combo Points and Finishing Moves granting us a stacking Haste buff.
Sap, Blind and Gouge are top row Talents, and grant us more Crowd Control. Shadowstep and Improved Sprint grant us more mobility. Atrophic Poison reduces the enemies damage done by 4%, and Numbing Poison slowing their attack and cast speed by 18%.
Evasion, Feint and Cloak of Shadows are granting us strong defensive cooldowns. Other small Talents grant us more heal with Crimson Vial, or passive damage reduction.
For Single Target, Assassination Rogues will avoid the talents chosen for Mythic+ dungeons, but instead use their talent points on the left side of the talent tree. Kingsbane will create another debuff that you put on your enemy that deals damage over time, and deals more damage everytime you apply a lethal poison to the target.
Zoldyck Recipe will grant Assassination Rogues a way to accelerate their damage during the execute phase of a raid encounter. Your poisons and bleeds deal 30% increased damage against targets below 30% health. Additionally, with Tiny Toxic Blade, Shiv will deal 500% more damage and no longer costs Energy, granting us an easy way to consistently apply Shiv without losing out on energy and interrupting our cycle of abilities.
The bottom row of talents in the Assassination Rogue talent tree are very restricted to use. You have to spend 3 talent points in order to skill the last row talent. This will limit us in our choice of these talents. For more AoE oriented fights, Assassination Rogues want to use the talents on the right side.
Indiiscriminate Carnage is a 1 minute cooldown which causes our next Garrote and our next Rupture to apply to up to 8 enemies within 10 yards. This is on a 1 minute cooldown, making it potentially usable in all trash packs in a Mythic+ dungeon, as long they live long enough. Preferable, you want to use this ability during Stealth between pulls to benefit from the additional Garrote damage.
Each enemy afflicted by your Rupture increases your Agility by 3%, up to 24% which grants us a boost in damage.
Crimson Tempest is a now a very strong finisher for dealing damage up to 8 enemies. It deals initial damage, and puts a bleeding on the enemies on them lasting for 14 seconds. This will be a perfect time for many trash packs.

General Stat Priority for Assassination Rogue with our Build is:
–
Agility is your primary stat, meaning that Itemlevel is superior in most cases. Higher Itemlevel will also increase your Stamina and Armor that you gain.
Critical Strike increases the chance for your abilities and spells to deal double damage.
Haste reduces your global cooldown, your time to cast spells, and reduces the cooldown of many abilities.
Versatility grants you a flat damage increase, but also a damage decrease for half of its value.
Mastery increases the damage done by your poisons and bleedings by a certain amount.
The further we are getting into the expansion, the effects of diminishing returns start to limit your effective gain of your secondary stats. After reaching 30% (by rating) of any given stat, you will start to receive a penalty that reduces the gain from more of the same stat over this treshold.
Stat priority can differ on every character. Make sure to simulate yourself on Raidbots get the perfect results for you.
