The first Expansion for the 9th Generation of Pokemon has been revealed! The Set is going to release on March 31st, 2023 and contains 198 cards, and more Secret Rares!

Usually, the first Expansion of a year would release in February, but this time its going to be delayed until the end of March.

English cards will now also feature a Silver Border! These borders have been used exclusively for the japanese cards, while in the rest of the world the iconic yellow border was a staple for more then two decades!

“This change both frames Pokemon TCG artwork in its originally intended border and further unifies the game on a global level”

Higher Prices in the Future

Despite the hype about the next generation of Pokemon, there are also some bad news for collectors. Prices for Pokemon products will increase in the future!

“Due to global inflation impacting the cost of materials and production, Pokemon TCG products will see varying MSRP increases in select markets with the launch of the Scarlet & Violet series. For example, the price of a booster pack will increase from $3.99 to $4.49 USD.”

Its not yet certain how much prices will increase on the current market, with inflated prices due to low supply and scalpers selling products for higher amounts.

But to compensate for the surge in price, every Booster in the future will contain 3 holographic cards, instead of one.

“In addition, certain products will come with additional items. For example, the Elite Trainer Box will include an additional booster pack and full art promo card.”

EX Cards are coming back!

Last seen in 2007, Pokemon EX are coming back as one of the new main mechanics of the upcoming TCG generation. Despite the similar name, the new Pokemon-EX will not work as the oldschool Pokemon-ex!

Terastallization

Another main mechanic of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are Terra Pokemon. This is usually one of the Pokemons regular types, but can also be a very different type (like a Normal-type Fuecoco)

Tera Pokemon will contain an extra Box on the Card, indicating its Terastalized! Pokemon with this effect do not take damage from attacks when they are on the bench.
